Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) Services
KAG offer this service in Kingston, Richmond and East Surrey.
We have specially trained staff to provide an IMCA service. The aim of the service is to provide additional safeguards for people who lack the capacity to make certain important decisions at the time a decision needs to be made, and who have no appropriate family or friends to consult. Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) Services
Most people detained under the Mental Health Act, including people on CTOs (Community Treatment Orders), have the legal right to an IMHA.
An IMHA is a specialist mental health advocate, dealing with issues of care, treatment and detention. Trained KAG staff can act in this capacity.
Crisis Advocacy
Professional workers are employed by KAG to provide advocacy in a crisis or when it is either not possible or appropriate for a volunteer to deal with the issues.
Specialist Advocacy
KAG provides specialist advocacy services for people; with mental health problems; with learning disabilities; with physical disabilities; for older people with mental health problems and for people from black and ethnic minority communities. Citizen advocates are trained volunteers who offer information and support to their partner (the client) over specified issues. The volunteer is given back-up and supervision from a paid member of staff and works to a set of approved guidelines.
