Definitions
Advocacy: Representation of the interests of one person by another. It is about stating a case, influencing decisions, ending assumptions, getting better services, being treated equally, redressing the balance of power.
Independent: We represent only the individual to whom we provid the advocacy service. Our only interest in any situation is that our client understands their rights and is heard during any decision making that affects their lives. We are funded by grants from local government, other charities and commercial contracts for our services. Our agreements with funders explicitly protect our independence.
Vulnerable people:
Individuals recognized by law as vulnerable.
Learning Disabilities
Mental Health
Minors (appropriate adult scheme)
Institutionalized, including elderly without other friends or support, etc.
